AIA National Advocacy
The AIA represents the interests of architects before federal, state, and local governments and other policy-making bodies and organizations, working closely with the local components including AIA Mississippi and the AIA Mississippi State Council to assist with local and state advocacy efforts.
At the federal level, the AIA's Government Affairs Department works with the U.S. Congress, White House and various agencies to educate government leaders and others about the profession and the AIA's policies, positions, and objectives pertaining to community development and livability, as well as the business and practice of architecture. This effort involves the AIA in a range of issues including housing, urban renewal, accessibility, historic preservation, energy, environmental standards, security, government design practices, school construction, transportation, procurement, project delivery, small business operations, and tax policy.
Visit the AIA Government Advocacy web site to learn more. This site includes a wealth of information and resources.
The AIA also publishes an excellent guide to understanding how the American Institute of Architects and its members can assist policy makers. Click here to learn more about The Architect as a Legislative Resource.
AIA members can login to the Members Only AIA Advocacy Center on the national web site to see how your Mississippi legislators stand on key issues relating to the architectural profession.
