AIA | CES: Continuing Education
AIA Mississippi is an "AIA CES Registered Provider" of continuing education programs for members. This means that AIA Mississippi is one of more than 2500 educational providers within the AIA/CES systems made up of AIA Chapters, affiliate organizations, manufacturers, universities, other non profit organizations, and government agencies. Our goal is to provide the best available continuing education opportunities to our membership and related industry professionals.
You may also use AIA CES continuing education units (those that qualify as public protection subjects/HSW) to help your requirements for State Licensing. Visit our web page, State Licensing for Architects, for more information on how you can satisfy both AIA and State requirements for continuing education.
New Sustainable Design (SD) Requirement for 2009 - 2012
The AIA Board of Directors modified the AIA-member continuing education requirement to include 4 hours of education in sustainable design as part of the existing 18-hour annual requirement. This sustainable design requirement goes into effect in calendar year 2009 and extends through 2012. Please visit the NEW Member Sustainable Design FAQs for more information on sustainable design and other provider issues.
The Sustainable Design MCE does not replace the original requirement for 18 total hours, eight of which must be in Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) subjects, They are part of the total requirement, not in addition to the existing AIA Mandatory Continuing Education requirement. Four (4) Sustainable Design learning units may also fulfill four (4) HSW Learning Units and four (4) total Learning Units. All sustainable design learning units must also qualify for HSW. Therefore, any qualifying sustainable design educational activity taken will also apply to the HSW requirement.

Look for the AIA/CES provider logo to denote AIA CES programs
When you see the AIA/CES logo advertised in conjunction with our educational seminars, workshops, and conferences you'll know the specific program has been registered through the AIA CES system. If a program is registered, this means that all members who register and attend will have their time recorded for credit by the provider (eg. AIA Mississippi). AIA/CES records are kept on file with the University of Oklahoma where transcripts are maintained for all AIA members. AIA Mississippi will provide a certificate of completion for non-AIA members upon request for all AIA/CES programs offered by the Chapter.
Remember, all active AIA members must successfully complete 18 learning unit (LU) hours each year, with at least 8 LU hours relating to health, safety and welfare (HSW) and 4 LU hours relating to Sustainable Design (SD).
